What is a Facelift or S-Lift?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery aimed at reducing visible signs of aging on the face and neck. This procedure addresses sagging skin, deep facial folds, and loss of muscle tone to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance. An S-lift, also known as a limited incision facelift, is a variation of the traditional facelift that focuses on lifting the lower face and neck using shorter incisions. Both procedures aim to enhance facial contours and rejuvenate your look.

Whether you're looking to rejuvenate your appearance with a full facelift or a more focused S-lift, we are here to guide you through every step of the process. Why Consider a Facelift or S-Lift?

There are several reasons individuals might choose to undergo a facelift or S-lift:

  • Aging Signs: As we age, the skin loses elasticity, resulting in sagging and the formation of deep lines and folds.
  • Facial Contours: Loss of muscle tone and fat can affect the contours of the face, creating a tired or aged appearance.
  • Neck and Jawline: Excess skin and fat around the jawline and neck can become more pronounced over time.
  • Self-Confidence: A facelift or S-lift can significantly boost self-esteem by improving the overall appearance of the face and neck.

Both procedures can address these concerns, with the choice between a facelift and an S-lift depending on the extent of correction needed and the patient's aesthetic goals.

How Each Procedure Works

Before having a facelift or S-lift, you’ll engage in a detailed consultation where your surgeon will assess your facial structure, discuss your goals, and recommend the most suitable approach. Photographs may be taken for planning purposes.

On the day of the procedure, you will receive anesthesia to ensure comfort. This can be general anesthesia or sedation combined with local anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery.

For a traditional facelift, incisions are typically made along the hairline, extending around the ears and into the natural folds of the skin. For an S-lift, shorter incisions are used, often starting at the temples and extending around the ear.

Your surgeon lifts and repositions the underlying tissues, removing excess skin and fat as needed. Muscles and connective tissues are tightened to restore a more youthful contour. After the necessary adjustments are made, the incisions are carefully closed with sutures or adhesive strips.

During postoperative recovery, you may experience swelling, bruising, and general discomfort. Most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks, though full results may take several months to become apparent.

The S-lift follows a similar process but focuses on the lower face and neck with shorter incisions. It is ideal for patients seeking a more subtle lift or those with less severe sagging. The procedure offers quicker recovery times and less visible scarring compared to a full facelift.

Your Anesthesia Options

Depending on your procedure, you will receive one of the following forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
